Rambling through Central Park New York in the Springtime. May is a great time to be in the big city. Trees and flowers are at their peak freshness, there is a pleasant freshness in the air, and after a long and wearying winter the locals are apt to be spending as much time possible outdoors. There's neither the heat nor the crowds of later summer. And what better season to become acquainted - or reacquainted - with Frederick Law Olmstead's masterpiece of city planning, Central Park? |
| | This photo was taken in March 2003. It was brisk, and the trees were bare, but it was still a good break from the white vastness of my home region, the upper peninsula of Michigan. |
| I think Lisa lived near here before she married |
| | When we rural folk come to New York, we have to get over our instinctual fear of traffic, crowds, and big buildings. Not all of us "fly-over people" can make the transition and actively take part in the sizzle of the city. But when I am here - even if it's just for a few days - I can't help feeling like Eva Gabor in "Green Acres":
New York is Where I'd Rather Stay, I get allergic smelling Hay, I just adore a penthouse view. Darling, I love you But give me Park Avenue! |

One question: Why the statue of a Hungarian leader? What does he have to do with NY? | Dabs Wed Jun 15, 2005 20:00 UTC "Shy" yooperprof? There are at least two disbelieving Chicagoans :-) I tried to stop by that Cafe and it was closed, looks like I missed a treat! | deecat Wed Jun 1, 2005 16:07 UTC Hey, Chet, nice page on New York City. Love the two tips on the Westin Hotel Architecture...what a riot...Miami look in NYC! Enjoyed write up on your hotel. Some mighty fine photography for "shy" (?) Yooperprof. |
