Lighthouse for the Lake

Whitefish Point is another one of the Upper Peninsula's "end of the road" communities. There's not a whole lot here, which makes it either horribly dull or absolutely essential, depending upon your point of view. Whitefish Point has been an important Coast Guard Station for over 150 years. The Lighthouse helps direct ships into Whitefish Bay and on to the Straits of Sault Ste. Marie. It's one of the most devilish passages in all of the Great Lakes, and it is entirely appropriate that there should be an excellent Shipwreck Museum here.
