Yooperprof in the Dunes

That's the NIPSCO plant in the background, with its starkly plain cooling tower from which plumes of emissions pour, decorating the winter sky. For a much more thorough and competent tour of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, please visit Sam Barnett's VT pages. Thanks, Sam, for showing me around, and for taking this pic.

The Strikingly Beautiful NIPSCO Plant

Northern Indiana Public Service Company has a large and imposing power plant at the eastern end of the Indiana Dunes. A few years ago German photographers Bernd and Hilda Becher published a series of photographic "essays" documenting different building "typologies." They were particularly fascinated by industrial building types like this one.

How lucky to have a great guide.. I just love that lighthouse. Superb photos. I'd luv to walk that top deck too. I can recommend bathrooms moreso than restaurants too :-)).

Nice Michigan City page! I live in the South Bend area and pass through the city a lot.

And here I've been telling people to NOT look at the NIPSCO plant. Tore away from the workplace.. haha, that's a funny one.
