Here, as elsewhere in so much of America, the most notable and proportioned building in a town is the county courthouse. The Elkhart County Courthouse is like many others in that it occupies a prominent square block in the center of the urbanized core.

It does seem a little odd that there should be this elegant statue of Neptune in land-locked Elkhart County. An immigrant candy-seller from Greece named James Palezoes donated this pagan god to the the County Courthouse in 1912, as a symbol of his appreciation for his new country. (Thanks Sam Barnett for the info.)

How did I miss Shepherd's Pie? I'll defintely check that place out when I go thru Goshen again.
