Restaurant Name: Rose & Crown
The Rose and Crown is a Highgate pub that's gone completely gastro. They have a clean, tidy and elegant interior, and a pleasant courtyard out back that is wonderful on a summer's eve. I'd call it an upscale casual place - you might want to dress nice here. Did I hear that you might see Pierce Brosnan here? You never know which celebs you might run into in Highgate! I had an excellent and hearty "beef and onion pie" - the crust was flaky and buttery, the meat succulent, and the gravy rich without being overpowering. Served with a scoop of mash and green beans - exactly seven green beans. Was there some "green bean shortage" that I didn't hear about? Why so stingy with the string beans?

Cafe Rouge, Highgate: "French style" chain of cafes

Restaurant Name: Cafe Rouge
"Cafe Rouge" is a British owned but French styled chain of cafes across the U.K. It's part of a conglomerate that specializes in making food and beverage "experiences" - well, good for them. They do have fairly good morning pastries and fairly good espresso drinks, and although I didn't have any substantial meals here, I'm sure that they do fairly good lunches and light dinners as well. I would imagine that the wine selection is fairly good as well. "Cafe Rouge" was popularized by the Bridget Jones series of books - Bridget was a regular!
Favorite Dish: I went to the Cafe Rouge in Highgate Village - I liked the way that it seemed like a genuine local establishment - it didn't shout "chain establishment" but instead blended in with its locally owned neighbors.

Restaurant Name: The Wren Cafe
The Wren is located at St. James, Piccadilly. It's a great place to go for a quiet conversation over a hot cuppa, or just to rest your feet after sampling the exhibitions at the nearby Royal Academy.
