When A Man is Tired of London. . .

London is a Theatre

Sometimes it seems as if Londoner's are a little larger than life. It makes sense. Shakespeare wrote his plays here, and Dickens created his fictional world based upon his London experiences. Not for nothing is London known as the capital of the English-speaking world's theatre. If you don't see at least one play while you're in London, you might as well stay home. What's so impressive is that most of London's theatres are themselves "historic" but they continue to serve their original purpose.

London's Emblem

The City of London is not "all" of London, but there's no doubt that the independence and pride of Londoners is reflected in the heraldic imagery of the City' shield. Incidentally, when I was in London in the summer of 2002, I saw more flags of St. George than I saw Union Jacks. English nationalism may be supplanting British nationalism - or maybe it was just World Cup Season.
