I spent many hours here. A really nice place to just sit, lunch, relax, watch people. The Pantheon can be seen behind the statue in the photo. And, if you used French in Action to help learn 'some' of the language, you'll know they filmed many episodes here - Marie-Laure, Robert, and Mireille were acting away here so students like myself could learn not to butcher the language so badly. I read that Hemingway used to hunt pigeons to eat for dinner in this park...'where are you my pigeon?..I am looking for you' -Pepé le Pew. http://www.paris.org/Monuments/L uxembourg/

Construction started around 1163 - that's old! And, ended around 1345. I took a photo of the back of the structure; you usually see pictures of ND from the front or side...how innovative of me...eh-hem. By the time I got to Paris, I had already seen so many cathedrals that I wasn't very excited about this one. Didn't see Quasimodo, either.

The Seine cuts right through Paris. It didn't look very clean though. But, I saw on TV that they made a temporary beach next to the Seine in Paris. They put down sand and people went there to sunbathe. Swimming is still probably out of the question. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2 002/07/22/1027332346099.html

Museum devoted to the art of Rodin. Saw many of his famous sculptures. The garden out back of the museum is nice too...some of his works are spread around there. The photo is of The Thinker. Also took a picture of The Kiss - but it's a little too naughty for VT.

Shakespeare and Company (bookstore) Books, books, des livres, and more books. This is a pretty famous bookstore. Over the years, freespirits have made it a home away from home.

At the time, I didn't realize that you can walk up the stairs of the tower to the middle platform. I would have done that if I had known...instead of using the lift. Everybody knows about the Eiffel Tower - there's no need to write much. Nice views...don't spit off it...lots of tourists....

Actually, the Bastille isn't there anymore, but there is a monument...and a lot of traffic. This might qualify as a tourist trap. I wish that the Bastille was still around - it would have been another great attraction for Paris...what an excellent tour it would have been: so and so was beheaded here...whatshisface was confined in this cell.... They did add the Opera de la Bastille nearby which spurred development in the area...such as shops, galleries, bars, etc.... http://www.discoverfrance.net/Fr ance/Paris/Monuments-Paris/Bastille.shtml

An underground walkway lined with human bones. Some of the cemetaries of Paris were filling up...causing a bad aroma and attracting rats and so on...therefore they began to put many of the human remains in these underground quarries. There are the bones of around 5-6 million people kept here in a small portion of the 300km of the underground corridors. It makes for an interesting (not to mention different) tourist spot. I liked it. They search bags at the exit to make sure people don't steal the bones. People over the age of 60 can get in for free.

Built by Napoleon in 1806...well he didn't build it himself...he had people do it for him. The tomb and flame of the unknown soldier is here - Napoleon and Victor Hugo's funeral processions passed under the arch. There is a walkway that goes underneath the street to the monument; use it instead of trying to dodge traffic...the cars are whiskin' around all over the place nearby.
