While living in Zambia, I had the opportunity to visit Malawi three times, with two of those trips (1973 and 1974) being to a great resort area on the southern end of Lake Malawi at Salima, not far from Lilongwe. The first of these visits was with my Danish workmate, Torben, while the second was with with my soon-to-be wife, Susan. This page covers some of my memories of those visits from almost 30 years ago! Photo taken from a rocky outcrop at the end of the Grand Beach resort at Salima - looking down onto the main area as the waves roll in from Lake Malawi (also known as Lake Nyasa in those days!).
- Pros:In those days, friendly and inexpensive
- Cons:Strict rules as to dress code
- In a nutshell:A great country then, now trying to survive today's problems

Sounds like that was a great family holiday, with your kids! The bungalow looks perfect. And love the picture of the Boabab tree. You would not get potato crisps into Australia too-or anything else that is edible. They are SO strict about that at customs.
Funny custom, the border haircuts. Interesting page about your visits to Malawi.
Lovely page Glenn! A family friend is a missionary here, she has her work cut out for her. This country does have o much going for it, doesn't it?
nice tips
Nice again to go down memory lane with you! What a pity hippies are not allowed haircuts can hurt sometimes!
Fascinating how "strict" Malawi was (still is?) regarding length of hair, etc. How peculiar. Beautiful lake.
Hi , very interestering, I joined a Charity, Water for Malawi 6 months ago, a small group of people who provide wells for remote villages, amazing what $1500 provides for a village.
Lake Malawi looks like a great place to relax and do nothing.
Thank you for visiting my El Remate page. Your Malawi page is very interesting. I envy you all the experiences you have had!
Interesting! Would love to visit!
