I managed to make it to Kenya 4 times during a period of eight years (between 1973 and 1981) and really enjoyed every one of those visits! The earlier visits were as a result of working in nearby Zambia for 3 years, but this summary of Kenya concentrates on my last time in the country, which was one of the best trips that I have ever experienced. While our whole family was in the midst of our 9-week round-the-world jaunt in 1981, we stopped for a week in Kenya as we flew back to Papua New Guinea on the London-Singapore portion of our trip. After landing in Nairobi, we made all of our arrangements at the local tourist agency. We rented a car and initially headed north-west into the Rift Valley as far as the small mountain town of Molo, just beyond Nakuru. We then doubled back south of Nairobi to the Amboseli Game Park, on the border with Tanzania, for 3 days before returning to Nairobi for a day. It was a fantastic experience! This photo shows a Masai warrior in Amboseli (note the 15 shilling note that he is holding as a bribe, about $2, - they do not like to have their images captured on camera!).
