I spent a few quite enjoyable days in Cairo during my 4 week return trip to Canada after 2 years of working in Zambia. Since this July, 1974 visit was less than a year after the 1973 Yom Kippur war with Israel, I was not sure what to expect but could not pass up the chance to visit this cradle of civilization. As it turned out, the people were amazingly friendly from the moment we stepped off the airplane (I was travelling with another returning Canadian CUSO volunteer who had also worked in Luanshya, Zambia). I remember that we had debated over our next destination after Egypt, would it be Cyprus or Tunisia? In the end we chose Tunisia and it turned out to be a very good choice - we would have been in Cyprus at the time of the Turkish invasion and would have had to have been evacuated by military aircraft! Photo of my first (and only) camel ride with the Sphinx and Pyramids as a backdrop!

I’m not quite sure that Egypt existed 5 or even 3 thousand years ago but now I'm sure with your help that it existed at least in 1974... Ha-ha! A very interesting view out of previous century! But Light and Sound show kept since then. Thanks Glenn!

Egypt is a country I definitely must visit someday. It must be an amazing experience to see the Pyramids for the first time.
