My wife and I had a "quick" trip to Alberta as part of a Western Canada excursion to attend the graduation of one of our sons-in-law from his Royal Canadian Mounted Police training in Saskatchewan. Consequently, we did a lot of driving from Calgary to Edmonton and back to squeeze in as much as we could in about 4 days. Being this close to the Rockies, we naturally had to take the long route between the two cities via Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Jasper! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - both the scenery and the hospitality were fantastic! In April, the tourist activity was near zero and we had the whole province to ourselves. The weather also cooperated, to the extent that it was too far gone into drought conditions as the year wore on. Photo of Big Horn Sheep beside the highway in Jasper National Park.

brought back some lovely memories of hiking in jasper natl park. regards from maryland
it looks so beautiful out there!
Wonderful place to visit! I have always had an affiniy for the big trucks, too. After watching "Vanishing point" and other movies on big trucks in my kiddy years I wanted to become their driver haha.
Bet you'reglad you made the side trip here - lovely place
Beautiful mountains... a very refreshing view, that brings a little cool air to this hot morning in Montevideo!!!
Beautiful place! I have yet to see the Rockies, US or Canadian. It's on my must do list:)
Jasper is one of my favourite places in the world! And I agree, the Icefields Parkway is a worthwhile detour.
Another great page. I have been there a couple times as well also , Banff, Jasper etc.
That was a long drive--but well worth it. No place prettier than the Canadian Rockies.
Great mountain/wildlife pix, Glenn... I love going to these type places out of season...
