One of the World's Great Cities ! | Street Scene in Vieux (Old) Montreal |
Ah yes, Montreal ! I have had a long history of enjoying Montreal, starting in the early 1960's when my parents would take us along on the odd trip to visit an uncle and aunt who lived in the Chateauguay suburbs of the city. In addition, my memories of the excitement of enjoying Expo '67 (celebrating Canada's 100th birthday) and the 1976 Olympics only solidified my opinion of the varieties that this city has to offer. This is not to mention the countless business trips that I have had to the city over the last 20 years! In my mind there is no question that the European culture of the city makes it an alluring spot to visit - vive la difference! As a result of these experiences, I decided that it was time that I took advantage of my latest business trip to at least begin to document my opinions of the city! In mid-October, an international conference on electric power system technical issues was being held downtown at the Delta Centre-Ville, so my wife and I drove the easy 1700-kilometer (1060-mile) round trip from Fredericton. The conference had lots of interesting presentations and the weather was also fantastic for that time of the year - sunny and low 20s C (75 F). The photo was taken along St. Paul Street in the Old Montreal district as we walked a few blocks from our hotel. |
