Latest visit was for an August wedding | Sue and the CN Tower in downtown Toronto |
Sue and I made a week-long 3000-km round trip drive to Toronto to attend a wedding in August, 2007. Between the various events, we managed to sneak away for a quick trip to the downtown core where we enjoyed a tour of the city in one of three 'Hippo' land/water busses!
Since I first did these page comments below in October, 2003, I have been back for two more meetings. January, 2004 was just an in and out day trip (-21 C) and my June, 2004 two-nighter (+31 C) allowed me to see a little bit more of the City! I have added a few more tips from those trips (slowly getting there)!!
I apologize if my Toronto page is not very inspiring! I had a 2 day meeting there in late October but the weather did not cooperate with me - it was cloudy and gloomy the whole time. The only good thing was that I spent most of my time indoors anyway. However, I did have a chance to examine the city while driving to and from the airport and I was surprised at how appealing it was. I thought that I would like to come back here some time and be able to enjoy the city at a leisurely pace! The CN Tower, seen here from my taxi window as we whizzed by, is the world-wide symbol of the city. This tallest free-standing structure in the world can be seen from quite a distance away! |
| | 'Green Power' has Arrived! Something new on the horizon (and driving in from the airport this thing stood out almost as much as the CN Tower) was a wind-generator located smack in the middle of downtown on the lakeshore. With its slowly revolving blades, it actually struck me as quite majestic looking! The 30-storey high C$1.8 million structure was erected in the Exhibition grounds (in-service April, 2003) to promote the benefits of 'green power' to the public. Although its 750 kW output is merely a drop in the bucket (it would take 690 of these to replace even the smallest of Ontario's nuclear generators - providing the wind blows) it is part of a world-wide trend to harness the natural forces of the earth to generate a least a portion of our energy needs. |

Babzz Wed Mar 12, 2008 15:25 UTC I love the wind mill. I too think they are majestic - and mesmerising! | rsilva Tue Jan 22, 2008 11:25 UTC Hi Glenn, nice page on Toronto, one of my favourite cities. Next time you should try "Ruth's Chris" steakhouse, I found it to be better than Barberian's (I have been to both twice). Bye, Ricardo | toonsarah Wed Sep 5, 2007 14:50 UTC It's a shame you've not been blessed with more comfortable weather conditions on your visits here, but you've produced some excellent tips nevertheless! And what a fantastic swimming pool :) | deecat Tue Aug 7, 2007 20:33 UTC Well, I really loved your restaurant tips and we seem to enjoy those tomato and onion salads! An interesting page, especially the description of the ballpark and game. |
