San Francisco Holiday!

by Bwana_Brown - last update: May 17, 2003

Family Gathering
My wife and I were fortunate to be able to enjoy the amazing ambience of San Francisco during a period of absolutely great weather! Our trip was tied in with visits from England by her sister and brother to meet up with the latest addition to the clan by one of our nephews and his wife - residents of SF. It was wonderful to have comfortable accommodations with knowledgable tour guides thrown in as well! One of our best days was viewing the Golden Gate Bridge and then hiking the great walking roads and trails on its north side, not far from Sausalito.
Enjoying the Surf

The Great Highway

Our first day in SF was spent getting our feet on the ground after our very late flight from Toronto. During the afternoon, we went for a little spin along the Pacific waterfront, just north of Daly City, on the Esplanade Great Highway. It was great to get out and enjoy the sunshine and the surfers after leaving a blizzard behind in Canada!

Pacific Coast Highway

The next day, we decided to make use of our rental car for the 120-mile drive south to Monterey on US Rte. 1 along the Pacific coast. This trip was very enjoyable, especially the first part between SF and Santa Cruz along this protected section of coastline. We stopped at a couple of the beaches to enjoy the warm breezes, dip our toes in the ocean and admire the cliffs! Photo of one of the beaches with an abandoned WW2 concrete gun emplacement on the head of the cliff. The whole trip just got better and better from that point on! Mind you, we had an inkling that we would enjoy SF based on our only other visit - 24 years before (see my Travelogue)!
