Lanhydrock House & Gardens

Bodmin is a typical small Cornish town of about 14,000 people, situated on steep hills beside the River Fowey and located about mid-way between the north and south coasts of the county. Because the A30 highway (the main road artery into Cornwall) runs past the town, my wife and I have driven by on many occasions over the years as we travelled further west to visit relatives living closer to Land's End.

However, one stop did involve a tour of an amazing old estate just outside Bodmin that is reported to be the 10th most visited of all the National Trust properties in England - Lanhydrock House and its beautiful gardens. This small page recounts remembrances of that visit, despite the fact that no interior photos of the house are allowed due to National Trust rules.

A fire destroying a great Cornish house? Sounds like something Daphne de Maurier might write about. My memories of Bodmin are of the moor and a tiny cottage we stayed in years ago . This place looks a good deal grander. Thanks for the little tour. leyle

The formal garden of Lanhydrock House looks great but I would prefer hiking in the Wooded gardens! Nice place !

Seems lovely! I love National Trust places, bit too far for a day trip for me though! Visited North Wales last weekend where we packed 3 in! Claire :-)

Lovely little page. I remember these typical Cornish tin mines from my trip through Cornwall in 1997.
