Because Obidos was given in 1282 as a gift to Queen Isabel of Aragon by her husband, King Dinis, it naturally had to have accommodations suitable for royalty. Consequently, a Manueline-decorated palace was built within the walls of the town.
This beautiful structure, dominating the skyline of Obidos, is located at the northern end of the town. It has now been converted for use as an Historical Pousada (the first one in the country to be converted), offering its guests the chance to sample some of the luxuries that Royalty used to enjoy!
Unique Qualities: It is a pleasant stroll through the narrow streets to reach its main entrance. There is a gate in the walls located at the Pousada, so we stepped outside to take this external photo. This inn has 6 bedrooms and 3 suites. Room rates at this 5-star establishment are E207 Standard and E244 Deluxe, for two persons including all taxes and with breakfast (note: the prices go even higher in the summer months - up to E300). Too rich for our blood!!
