  • Name of Shop: In the Johannesburg Flea Market!

Our afternoon visit to the Johannesburg Flea Market was very enjoyable and it only cost 50 cents to get in. We had still been a bit jet-lagged and considered not going at all, but we were glad that we changed our minds and went along with the group. It was Sunday, and the place was really alive with many stalls as well as performers on the pathways themselves. It was fun just to observe the hustle and bustle of this busy place with a hum in the air. We did a little looking for trinkets but only managed to by a belt (for my wife) and a small SA bird book (for me) before we heard the beat of the drums calling us to the dancing session!

What To Pay: The leather belt was R20 or US$7

The beautiful jacaranda is quite popular in this part of the world too :~)

Can't say visiting a prison comes to mind when I imagine Africa but fascination account of his getting shot by snipers and the Boers.

The jacaranda trees look lovely, wish we had them here. Not the wire-topped fences though. A rather disturbing story of the prisoner, wish it had a happy ending.

The name shabeen looks a little Irish for around here = have heard the Jacaranda trees are spectacular in spring + lovely colours too
