Restaurant Name: Wandi's Place
Included in the tour of Soweto, was a stop at a local African 'shabeen' (illegal bar) - although I think that this one was no longer beyond the law! It was late afternoon by then and there was already a good crowd of Africans enjoying food and beer at Wandi's, as well as exchanging greetings with the visiting group of foreigners! After a brief sit-down for beers or coffee, the group was treated to a tour of the kitchen by the very friendly owner. Then, it was back on the bus for the drive back to the conference centre.

The name shabeen looks a little Irish for around here = have heard the Jacaranda trees are spectacular in spring + lovely colours too |
