Harry Sadler and his wife Joyce were our very gracious hosts during our working visit to Bulolo. These Australians had been living here for decades, and had a very comfortable house located part way up the mountainside with a great view out over the river. Harry was the supervisor of the Baiune Hydro Power system used to supply most of the needs of the logging operations taking place in the valley. He had called me in Port Moresby, wondering if the Electricity Commission could provide him with assistance in resolving a problem he had with his privately-owned generators. No problem, if it was good for the economy of PNG we were more than happy to oblige.
Unique Qualities: It was a real pleasure to meet Harry and Joyce, listening to their stories of life in the 'wilds' as we sat outside enjoying a meal prepared by Joyce. They seemed very content with their quiet existance in the Watut River valley. The photo shows the view from their front yard with the treeless hills in the distance quite common in this part of PNG (around Lae), probably due to extensive logging over the years.
