When I stayed at this 52-room hotel over twenty years ago, it was simply the Bird of Paradise Hotel. It was a great place to stay then, and it seems to be still going strong today.
The central location of the hotel makes it easy to have a look around Goroka and I remember walking in a large park-like area not too far from the Bird of Paradise. Because this is one of the prime tourism cities in Papua New Guinea, you are very likely to see, as I did, some of the local tribesmen displaying their traditional finery.
Unique Qualities: The hotel has all the usual in-room amenities (some of which did not exist in my time there) such as cable TV, digital phones, refrigerators and coffee/tea making facilities. It is also noted for its Lahini Restaurant which can treat you to some of the local favourites, among other things. If you are looking for something light, is has a Deck Bistro and a Piano Bar as well.
As with any luxury hotel, guests are also able to arrange tours to see some of the many nearby attractions. My accommodations were always paid using an Electricity Commission travel voucher, so I do not really know how much the rates were then, or today for that matter!
