Coogee Hotel: We'll Take It !

  • As detailed in my 'Warnings & Dangers' tip, shortly after our arrival in the country, we found ourself checking into the Coogee Hotel, in the suburbs of Sydney. It was a bright sunny August day so we had a look around the establishment and went out onto the roof patio for a good look at the area from there. I remember that we were not too impressed by all the tacky looking plastic chairs scattered about. Shortly afterward, we retired to our room, a suite of some sort, where we and the children relaxed on the bed in mid-afternoon. The next thing we knew, we woke up in total darkness not knowing what was going on or where the children were. As it turned out, we were so jet-lagged that we had passed out for hours and it was about 3 AM when we came to! We scurried around the room and found that the children were also sleeping and had not wandered off somewhere while we were dead to the world!
We were now wide awake so we decided to clear out and hit the road with our rental car. I remember walking through the darkened lobby of the hotel with our luggage and banging my shins into some potted plant holder! We had decided to head north toward Newcastle to enjoy some beach scenery so off we went in the dark - now totally famished with hunger. The first place we came across was a hamburger stand, so an Aussie burger with the works was our first breakfast!

Everything I read about Sydney indicates it's the most beautiful and pleasant city in the world. I'll definitely have to get there someday.
