Sydney, one of the great cities of the world, and there I was, August 1979, with "travel burnout" for the first and only time of my life! Nothing to do with Australia, it was just how we got there! Rather than repeat the story here, just check out the details in my San Francisco Travelogue section - the final straw was that we basically flew non-stop from the Atlantic coast of Canada to Sydney! Nevertheless, after a day or two we started to recover and really enjoyed our brief stay in this small part of Aussie!
- Pros:Lot's to do: city, ocean, inland....
- Cons:From here it is a long way to go!
- In a nutshell:A experience well worth the effort!

Hi Glenn, Thanks for the memories. I grew up in Sydney and left at age 27. I went to school across the harbour directly opposite the Opera House. Saw construction commence but living in Perth when completed. Happy New Year.
Good that you enjoyed Sydney and environs.The Entrance is a favourite spot for us too.As for the Coogee Hotel- it is a VERY 'happening' place nowadays for weekend entertainment (live music, good food)
I have never been to Australia, but Sydney is defenitly a place I want to visit, it looks like a great place!
It's about time you came south again Glenn, there'll lots more to Oz for you to discover, though you'd still need a visa. leyle
Everything I read about Sydney indicates it's the most beautiful and pleasant city in the world. I'll definitely have to get there someday.
Only in winter would you get a whole beach to yourself!

The Opera house really is quite impressive eh!. A hamburger with a fried egg and a slice of beet was delicious?? Sounds ghastly to me. Give me a slice of tomato, pickle and Vidalia Onion please.
