| An Old Steam Locomotive at Work |
My wife and our two youngest daughters accompanied me to Cuba for a one-week winter getaway from the frozen wastes of Canada. We booked a package tour to the island resort of Cayo Coco, about in the middle of Cuba and located on the northern coast just south of the tip of Florida. Altogether, it was a fantastic trip and very reasonably priced. We have always intended to return for a second visit to Cuba but, there are so many other places in the world that we have not yet visited for even the first time! This photo is of an ancient steam locomotive reversing at a sugar cane plantation near the town of Mo*on (don't ask me why VT will not let me insert the 'r' !!). The disasterous effects of the American trade embargo can be seen on the infrastructure of Cuba and it's beautiful people everywhere you go, once off the resorts. |

lynnehamman Tue May 26, 2009 23:39 UTC This resort looks great! As does the beach. I wonder what you would think of Cuba as it is today? Nice tips & photos | victorwkf Tue Dec 23, 2008 07:54 UTC Hi Glenn, wish you a merry christmas and happy new year! Great page on Cuba, a very interesting country :) | HORSCHECK Wed Oct 1, 2008 20:02 UTC Glenn, gorgeous little page about this Cuban gem. I especially like the photo of the steam locomotive in operation. Oh, and I wouldn't mind having a Cuban picnic right now. :-) | TheWanderingCamel Fri May 23, 2008 01:55 UTC I wonder what it's like to visit Cuba now. My niece was there a few years back, tried to travel independently , found it very dificult so in the end booked into a reort for the last week of their stay. Have things improved I wonder. leyle |
