| Poolside at the Margarita International |
Venezuela beckoned as a winter getaway spot in March, 1997, as another Canadian winter dragged on forever! We were originally planning to go to Mexico (finally made it there 6 years later!) as our first visit to the Caribbean area but came across a deal on Margarita Island, off the north coast of Venezuela, that better suited our needs. Altogether, we had a great time at our "low end" resort, the Margarita International, in the city of Porlamar. Although we had been all over the world at the time, it was our first "winter" vacation along the lines that many North Americans take - and it was nice to sit under the palm trees for a while as the blizzards blew at home! Photo of me sitting pool-side at the resort. In the background is the water volleyball net with a few of the guests having a go at the game. The resort was small enough that you could get to know the other people there and it was almost like a family thing towards the end! It was great to jump in the pool for a few games of volleyball as people just alternated between some sports and some pool-side relaxation all day long!! (September, 2008 - Note: there are two 'Isla Margarita' locations in Venezuela and I originally had this page located in the wrong one - on the mainland instead of in the Caribbean Sea! I have just moved this page to the correct province of Venezuela) |

Pawtuxet Thu Aug 27, 2009 12:30 UTC Hey, Bwana!Long time no see. You are still on the move- around the world and in ratings!! Thanks for the sunshine of Margarita. | nomorewars Mon Jul 7, 2008 01:32 UTC Wow! Such a long distance to escape the Canadian winter. I remember how cold it could get in Montreal during the winter months, so I don't blame you one bit. Having lived along the Gulf Coast for the last 5 years, I actually miss the cold. | deecat Sat Aug 25, 2007 21:17 UTC Jeep Tour sounds grand. Excellent description. So good that you were able to get back the bag with your keys! What a way to get away from the winter. Smiling about your "tan" photo! | SLLiew Fri Jun 29, 2007 01:41 UTC An interesting place to visit. Excellent write up. Thanks for sharing. |
