| Heading into Saskatchewan's "Big Muddy Badlands" |
June 26 - It was a sunny Saturday and I had some business to attend to at a US Border Customs post directly south of Regina, Saskatchewan - so I decided to make a day-trip out of it and explore this remote and rugged part of Canada. It turned out to be an excellent day as I took in new scenes and saw lots of wildlife as I cruised along on virtually deserted small highways. I even made a friend at one of my stops - it is all described in my newest page on 'Willow Bunch'.
June 13 - My page on 'Ronda' describes a fantastic day-trip we made there from Estepona. It was on Christmas Day and the weather was just about perfect, making our visit to this little city perched on both sides of a 300+ foot gorge the most spectacular of our entire 3-week trip to Spain!
May 17 - My 'Estepona' page details our enjoyable time in this small coastal city during our winter trip to Spain. It was located in a very convenient spot for us, west of both Malaga and Marbella, enabling us to take-in some nearby attractions. To top it off, Estepona also provided us with our most enjoyable accommodatons of the entire trip!
April 28 - For various reasons, our trip to 'Cadiz' after we had finished with Sevilla did not go quite as planned regarding having enough time to actually explore much of the city. However, we did discover the delightful little city of El Puerto de Santa Maria just across the Bay from Cadiz - well worth a visit in its own right. I also managed to work a nice boat-ride to Cadiz into the mix, so I was not too disappointed by our endeavours! My 'Cadiz' page is not very large, so feel free to take a look at this installment of our 3-weeks in Spain.
April 5 - 'Sevilla' is another amazingly historic Spanish city that blessed us with beautiful winter weather and a host of must-see attractions. Although our time there was far too short and we had a few planning 'glitches', it is definitely a city you should not pass up if you ever get the chance to visit. My Sevilla page describes our highs and lows!
March 20 - As described in my page on 'Antequera', we made a small but very enjoyable detour to see this historic Spanish city as well as the world famous limestone crags at nearby El Torcal Nature Park while we were enroute between Granada and Sevilla. El Torcal totally blew us away with its beauty and awesome scenes!
March 5 - Our best sample of Moorish grandeur in Spain's Andalusia province came during our visit to 'Granada', inland from the coast and nestled looking up at the impressive Sierra Nevada mountains. This page on our Christmas/New Year trip to Spain describes our explorations of both the Alhambra and in the old quarter of the city as well as the worst driving experiences of our trip!
February 9 - On our recent trip to Spain, 'Torremolinos' was almost both the first and last place where we spent a night in Andalusia Province. While there, we also found a very nice hostal and an excellent restaurant to keep us happy. My page also describes a very enjoyable day-trip we made from Torremolinos into the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains located behind it, including a little town that rivals the spectacular gorge of Ronda in many respects!
January 24 - My page on 'Alicante' describes how our 3-week trip in Spain started on a bit of a strange note! At least we had great weather and managed to see some amazing coastal views north of the city during our time there - including a lighthouse and picnic area located on scenic cliffs high above Jávea.
January 11, 2009 - My wife and I just returned from a 3-week driving trip in southern Spain - it was amazing as we put 3500-km on our rental car exploring the coastlines and mountains of Andalusia and up the coast to Alicante. I have now completed a page on one of the last things we did on this trip, describing the fantastic rugged coast and unique climate of 'El Cabo de Gata'. |
| Our wedding reception - Luanshya, Zambia 1975 |
| | How it all started During my childhood days in New Brunswick, Canada, my parents never strayed too far from their home province, except for a trip to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia as well as visits to relatives in Montreal, Quebec and also Connecticut, USA. I always had a love for geography and did a lot of reading about the world, giving me a desire to see it for myself at the first possible chance! My opportunity finally came in 1972, when I went to Zambia to work for 3 years immediately after obtaining my university degree in Electrical Engineering (Zambia was GREAT !!). While there, I met my British wife, Susan, who had spent 20 years being raised in Zambia (by the way, all the good things that people say about Victoria Falls are true - it is fantastic!). We returned to my Canadian homeland for a few years before we set off again for another 3 years overseas - this time I was working in the South Pacific Ocean, in Papua New Guinea. This sojurn offered us the chance to take a round-the-world trip in 1981 as well as a few other shorter jaunts. We again returned to Canada and since then we have slipped in the odd trip wherever we can. We have three girls (2 born in Zambia and 1 in PNG) and are proud grand-parents (now 5 times as of May 30, 2008)! I have included our variety of travel experiences over the years so you, hopefully, can reach some understanding of the places that we have been at that particular moment in our lives! By the way, if you get the chance, please also come to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada - it is a beautiful place to visit and live, which is why I kept coming back from all these trips! |
