Anyone who has ever traveled down Interstate 95 on the east coast of the United States is familiar with South of The Border. For literally hundreds of miles you pass signs advertising South Of the Border. Each sign gets progressively tackier and more bizarre. Originally built in the late 1940's to the early 1950's South of the Border is a historic tourist trap.
My daughter Danielle and I traveled from Maryland to Georgia each summer the past four years as she returns to college in Atlanta. Its a long drive but we both have grown to enjoy the time together and have learned to enjoy the trip. On our trip down in the summer of 2002 we decided we could not longer ignore all of the South of Border road signs and stopped in for a brief but funny visit.
This picture is of Danielle riding high on one the many oversized statues that decorate the grounds of South of the Border. |
