St. Michael's is nicknamed the town that fooled the Brittish. March 10, 1813 Brittish barges had planned to bombard the town in the dark early morning hours. The town had caught word of the pending attack. The residence planted lights and lanterns in the tops distant trees and on the top of boat masts along the distant shore line. This lead the Brittish to overshoot their targets, with only one canon ball actually landing in the town.

Today St. Michaels is a small tourist attraction. With a harbor filled with sail boats, seafood restaurants and many antique shops, St. Michaels is a perfect trip if you are staying in the Baltimore or Washington area for an extended time.

St. Michaels is located on the eastern shore of Maryland in Talbot County. Drive across the Chesapeake Bay bridge and head south. There are many small towns much like this to enjoy.
