Beauty and Tragedy

Point Lookout is a very remote and beautiful area deep in Southern Maryland. It is the southern most point in Maryland surrounded by beautiful shorelines and the Chesapeake Bay. However the natural beauty of the area is overshadowed by its tragic and horrific history. Visiting Point Lookout today you are reminded of its past from its haunted lighthouse to its deadly Civil War prisoner of war camp.

From the Contraband camp of former slaves, to the prisoner of war camp, to the haunted lighthouse, you will find many sad and tragic stories all associated with the small pennisula at Marylands southern most point.

Larry, just reading the tips gave me goosebumps! This haunted place has an eerie feel to it. I'm kind of a sensitive person, and I have a sense that it's not good for me to come here. :-) The views are absolutely stunning! Cheers! -Marissa-

Andersonville North! There is another Confederate Monument in Elmira, NY near the site of another Confederate POW camp.

Looks really nice here - so long as there's no hauntings during your visit!

That root cellar door looks spooky! I definitely wouldn't go down there. ...I would however hop the fence and take a closer look inside the windows of the house.
