There are many small towns and villages to visit as you drive through Southern Maryland. There are many small points of interest all down the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Chaptico is one of these small towns. The historical Christ Church is one of the points of interest to see on a Southern Maryland drive.

Chaptico is the second oldest village in St. Mary’s County Maryland. It dates back to 1652 and is second in age only to the original Maryland settlement of St. Mary’s City. The name of the village is of Native American origin meaning Deep Waters.
