IN MEMORY OF A GREAT CITY

by littlesam1 - last update: Sep 2, 2005

I am going to leave this page as I created it several years ago although most of what I have written about has been destroyed by Hurrican Katrina. I am in tears over the destruction and loss of life in this once great city. This was a city I loved more than any other in the US and spent many happy hours here. My memories are on this page. My prayers are with the people abandoned here in the aftermath of the storm.

New Orleans is my favorite city in the United States. San Francisco comes in a close second. But New Orleans stands alone on the top of my list.

From the Euorpean like Jackson Square, to the wild Burbon Street, to the quiet side streets of the French Quater there is no place else quite like New Orleans

I live in the mid Atlantic north eastern United States. We talk fast, we walk fast, our pace is demanding. When I arrived in New Orleans I realized I had to change my pace for the next week. From the drive from the airport to walking the streets of New Orleans you will discover the city has its own rythum and heartbeat. Much slower, much more relaxed, but still full of life.

The Guys in hats meet Andrew Jackson

Jackson Square is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. It is touristy and very busy. But it also has that special flavor you find in New Orleans. First there is the large monument of Andrew Jackson in the center of the square. Behind the statue is the beautiful St. Louis Cathedral. And all around the square there are shops, restaurants, and street vendors. Here you also find fortune tellers, tarot card readers, artists and a man selling the best praulines in the city.

Pros:"Great food, warm weather, friendly people"
Cons:"Very touristy and at times rowdy. But that can be good also."
In A Nutshell:"Probably the most Euorpean type city in the US"
