The surprising places we end up visiting | Larry (littlesam1) and Mark (Hikerpark) |
Before last year I had never heard of Karlsruhe. I doubt I would have ever planned a trip to Karlsruhe. But then last year in 2007 at the Santorini VT Euromeeting there was announcement made about the 2008 Euro Meeting being held somewhere called Karlsruhe. So I returned home to Baltimore and started to research Karlsruhe because I knew that would be my next European destination.
Karlsruhe is laid out in a circular pattern around the Karlsruhe Castle. The city received major damage from the bombings of World War II and most of its historical heritage was damaged. Today it is a modern city that has allowed itself to be rebuilt and to prosper.
As many of us who attended the VT Meeting here in May 2008 have learned, Karlsruhe is also the founding home of a web site beloved to many of us, namely Virtual Tourist. |
