I suggest that anyone visiting Amsterdam must go to the Anne Frank House. It is one of the most moving experiences of my vacation. However plan before going. It is a very sad experience so I would advise you to plan something upbeat and fun afterwards. Do not make it the only thing you do for the day. Walking though the rooms where this young girl lived, and walking the streets in the neighborhood where she lived all make the story of Anne Frank very real and touching. Going through the house and watching the video's of her father in his later years talking about the young daughter he lost is so moving and heartbreaking. You can not leave the tour without having your emotions touched.

I am a tourist. When I go on vacation and visit a city I am not ashamed to admit that I want to do things that tourists do. And most tourists in Amsterdam take a boat ride on the canals. The canals are beautiful and the tour allows you to see most of the highlights of the city. Take your camera of course. The photo opportunites are limitless. And like a typical tourist I also got to enjoy a can of Heineken with a friend on the tour. What more can you ask for!

I read about it. I saw pictures of it. And I had to walk through it when I was in Amsterdam. The Red Light District is like nothing else I have ever seen. The ladies sitting in the windows with the red neon lights was so surprising to me and yet so ordinary for Amsterdam. What is considered a taboo in many places is unassuming and acceptable here. You can even buy maps to direct you through the area. You are advised not to take pictures in the area and I did not want to cause any commotion so I kept my camera out of temptations reach while I walked through this area. Walking through the red light district is all part of the Amsterdam experience.
