Amsterdam is truely a city of contrasts. From the emotional experience of touring the Anne Frank House to the curiosity of walking through the Red Light District Amsterdam offers a host of activities that entertain, educate and fascinate. I started my vacation in Amsterdam with the shock of having my passport stolen (see my page on dangers and warnings) and ended it with having fallen in love with the city. Yes there are prostitutes in windows, drug dealers on the corners, pickpockets in the crowded toursts areas and yet Amsterdam is one of the safest and most charming places I have visited. It is a city of acceptance, a city of openness, and a city that welcomes. It is one city where homophobia literally does not exist. I traveled on the canels, I walked the streets, I visited the museums, and I drank Heinekin. All in all it was a great vacation. |
