LittleSam and The Little Mermaid
I know that many people have been critical of The Little Mermaid. I have read that its very small and many people are disappointed when they finally reach the location. I am not one of those people. We arrived in Copenhagen on Friday, April 1, 2005. On the next morning we decided to venture out and find The Little Mermaid. After a nice walk from the city center we found Churchill Park, the fortress Kastellet, and finally the rock where The Little Mermaid rests. Of couse this was Saturday, April 2, 2005. This also happened to be the 200th birthday of Hans Christian Anderson. We arrived at the statue just in time for a champaign toast in memory of his birthday. Everyone there raised a champaing glass and said Happy Birthday Hans Christian Anderson. What a great way to first experience this famous memorial.

There is much more to Copenhagen than just The Little Mermaid. Copenhagen is a lively city full of shopping, restaurants, historical sights, and chances to just be a real tourist.

Copenhagen is a safe city where you can freely walk the streetsand feel secure. There are warnings about pick pockets as in most major cities but we did not see anything bad going on. From the carnival rides at the world famous Tivoli, to the shopping on the worlds longest pedestrian mall the Stroget, to the historical castles, and the many references to Hans Christian Anderson Copenhagen while capture your imagination and leave you with many memories.

Glad you had such a good time in Copenhagen. I haven't been there for decades, but hope to return there sometime in 2008.

Thanks Larry for bringing back sweet memories from a year ago trip to Copenhagen. But according to your page I've missed several attractions. I'll try to see them this August. Thanks for the virtual travel!
