The most liberal city in the world! I have travelled to many places in my lifetime, but
Ahhh....Amsterdam, The Netherlands, My Favorite Place!
I love this country, it is so amazingly beautiful and so different culturally. Holland is intriguing to the point of addictive, it is the 'feeling' about the place, it is incredible. Almost like a feeling of what is home, like belonging there and being a true Amsterdammer. Therefore the desire to return is strong, so I am always planning a trip there!!

~HERE'S A SNEAK PEEK INTO MY AMSTERDAM AND HAARLEM PAGES~. |
About Holland The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with about 16 million people and it is located in northern Europe between Germany, to the east, and Belgium, in the south, with the North Sea to its north and west. The Netherlands literally means, 'the low countries'.The name refers to the fact that big parts of the country lies below sea level. These parts of the Netherlands would be under water if it were not for the system of dikes and dams which prevents the land from flooding. This constant battle against water is reflected in the popular saying, 'God made the world, but the Dutch made the Netherlands'. Typical features of the lower Netherlands are the flat areas that are surrounded by dikes where the water level is regulated artificially. In the past this was done with the help of windmills but now technology has taken over and electric pumping stations are used. The Netherlands can be seen as a large river delta, a place where the rivers Rhine, Meuse, and Scheldt all fan out and flow into the North Sea. Along the North Sea coast there are broad sandy beaches and dunes that draw many tourists from the Netherlands and from abroad. |
The Sea Palace A nice, huge floating chinese restaurant on the beautiful canal near Central Station in Amsterdam.
The people in the Netherlands form a quite a colorful society that is full of cultural and ethnic varieties. Many religions and persuasions are represented especially in the larger cities it becomes is very evident that the Netherlands really is a melting pot of all races. |
Coffeeshopping Adventures All about coffeeshopping. With over 300 just in Amsterdam alone, it's hard to decide which ones to visit. I have put together in photos all my favorite coffeeshops and strains I have sampled on my numerous visits to Mecca.
The Dolphins is a nice place with an underwater theme and cool decor, also there is a downstairs where there are big couches with space to chill and relax. The Dolphins Coffeeshop |
Amsterdam Buds All about Weed & Hash. With so many coffeeshops having so many different strains available, it's hard not to want to buy some of every kind to sample! But some kinds are better than others so it is good to have knowledge of what to specifically look for when visiting Amsterdam.
Although technically illegal, the Dutch authorities officially tolerate possession of up to 5 grams of cannabis for personal consumption. It is important to exercise a wide degree of discretion when actually smoking it in all parts of the country except Amsterdam which is one of the world's most liberal minded cities when it comes to drug use.
Some of my favorite strains are Blueberry (Noon), Power Plant (Willie Wortel's), Shiva (De Kuil), Yellow Cab (Grey Area), Skunk Haze (Willie Wortel's), Jack Herer (Siberie)
~Be sure to check out my page on Amsterdam with lots of detailed information on the coffeeshopping scene. |
Off the beaten path Haarlem, a picturesque town just a short 15 minutes by train, is definitely worth a day trip or two from Amsterdam. |
Sightseeing A Beautiful Windmill in Haarlem is just one of the breathtaking features this little town offers to its visitors.
A Few Emails on my Haarlem & Amsterdam Pages
BlueBerry, Just went thru all this register stuff to say thanks for the pages you put in about Haarlem and Amsterdam. I had a great time reading them and the pictures brought back memories from my past 5 visits. Your right about feeling sad on leaving Amsterdam. I smoked my last one at Centraal Station and then enjoyed a Brown bottled Heineken at the airport before flying out. I'm getting ready to go again as soon as I'm released from this injury to "Chill " and recover from Workers Comp. Did you notice that CentraaL Station has two steeples? The one on the right has a clock and the one on the left has only one hand that went backwards! It was a long while before I figured out it was a windvane! Was a little Buzzed I guess! Again Thanks for the write up you did and I'll be trying out the Joops Apt. when I go for a month. Not Soon Enough !!
;-) Rick
Hi BlueBerry
Just want to say thanks for the advice on Amsterdam you gave me on channels. There seems to be a few unsavoury characters hanging about on their at the minute so I thought I'd send a personal thanks. Great little site.
cheers
Neil
Hey there!
We and another couple will be heading to Amsterdam next week for Queen's Day. We'll be meeting up Saturday the 26th in Haarlem. I was googling "Haarlem coffeeshops" and one of the links that came up was your VT page. I noticed you were from South Carolina and, since we're from Georgia (in Augusta, on the SC border), I just HAD to write!! :-)
Love your travel pages -- fun to read, but also informative. Great pictures!! We have some photos up at our website, www.mikeandcarolyn.com Anyway, if you wanna check'em out, the ones for July 00 are the most complete.
We've been there four times so far, and every time we go we rent a houseboat on the Amstel. It is AWESOME! I have a feeling, though, that we're going to fall in love w/ Haarlem, and will be looking around for any houseboat rentals while we're there. Oh man, I'm rambling... sorry, it's kinda smoky in here, hehehe OK,anyway...
Terrific web site, very nice job. If you have any additional babble about Haarlem or Amsterdam that you wanna share, well that'd be great. Also, if you've ever been to Queen's Day before, I'd love to hear about it because this will be our first time!
Thanks for a great site. Have an awesome weekend!

PS..... I never met the man & have never been to Haarlem, but I noticed you have, Nol van Schaik has a new book "The Dutch Experience" that tells all the cool stuff about how coffeeshops got started, etc. I'm gonna order it but wondered if you'd seen it yet?
Anyway, good to see ya, dag / doei, and yeehaw

More Emails about my Amsterdam Page Blueberry Great site. I looked at everything. I've been to AMS from NYC 7 times since 1996. As of 1-23-03 round trip airfare from NYC to AMS on British Air, KLM, or Northwest is under 270 with tax included. I will definately check out Haarlem for a few days on my next trip over - thanks.
Hello!
I found your information on beautiful amsterdam very helpful. I am planning a trip at the end of March for my birthday. I was interested to hear your take on the transit system. including the night buses. Let me know your thoughts BB BigNew
Hello again! Thank you for your quick response. As usual you have provided me with great advice. I have read a few of your takes on the coffee shops (which is going to be a staple on our travels). and feel that you are quite informative. With the exception of your favorite picks, that I have commited to memory, any other suggestions on shops and bud? Let me know your thoughts BigNew
what up smooth? I shouldn't have to tell you this because I am sure your friends tell you all the time....but you absolutely rock!! I didn't even think to check the bottom of your page for that information. But it has certainly proved extremely useful. I feel like you have spent a substantial amount of time in good old Amsterdam. If you chill like I chill, and appreciate your tree, then I am sure I will be more than pleased with all of your selection. My girl and I are staying in the Leidesplein area. so a bunch of these places are within close proximity to a lot of the museums that we want to go to as well. The site is great as well, I got it yesterday from this guy Jeff from Utah. I have printed out the super map (good call again) and did my homework. Thank you again for all the info BigNew
Hummmmm, Wow. You are the best, and we ghanja smokers salute you. You are just what the doctor ordered. The Magical Kingdom awaits your arrival on June 26, 2003. The whole world loves you BlueBerry, myself included. "Ik ook van Jou" LastHamlet
