"Venezuela in a Matter of Hours" Venezuela by starship

How can you capture the nature of a country when you only have a day to do it in? That's what we were faced with on one sunny day in 1988. Arriving in La Guaira, it took some time to reach Caracas where we took a tour and were captivated by the sights and sounds of all we saw because we had never been to South America before (since then we have also visited Isla Margarita which belongs to Venezuela). I remember the beauty of Spanish-Colonial plazas where not only people met but iguanas also made their home, monuments fountains, mountains and a thriving downtown area. We also visited and rode on an outstanding, modern subway system where the underground passenger tunnels were artistically decorated and very clean. Unfortunately, I only have postcards to show you at this point until I can unearth my real photos!
Venezuela was, and is, an oil-rich country which seemed to be on the rise toward modernity. Since that time, there has been another evolution or revolution on the political scene.
So this page is not meant to be as informative as other VT pages which are newer and more comprehensive by far than this one on Venezuela. If anything, it is more a snapshot of the times. I will post more pictures if they can be found. It is curious though, that now when I travel, I do try to gather as much information as I can and take as many pictures as possible, all with the idea and knowledge that I know I will use it for building my VT pages. There certainly was no internet for public use or Virtual Tourist for that matter when we visited Venezuela in 1988!!! My how times have changed!
- Pros:Exotic culture, historical, tropical
- In a nutshell:Need more time to explore the country.

I think an organized tour of Venezuela is the way to go.
Nice place! Have a great week!
I see you had a nice visit there... Good for you! ><><><
Photos of the Pyramids? All on film and print. I really need to scan some photos. You really wanting to go to Africa?
I sure can't envision a trip there now...which is too bad because it looks very nice. The view from the tram must be magnificent!
I've not been to South American in several years - your pages make me want to return. Cheers - Sage
I always love to visit South America
that sky-tram looks really impressive !
An interesting tour. The skytram looks like it would be a great adventure.
I rode this sky-tram when I was 16 years old..visiting a friend there for the summer. I lived in maine, USA. That was 42 years ago. Caracas was a mix of the very rich and the very poor.
