"Where to Next? It is Written in the Stars!" starship's Profile
~ Always Searching for That Next Adventure ~
I'm always searching for and hoping for a new travel adventure. My desire to travel to new destinations near and far has intensified. My husband, who is my 'almost perfect' travel partner, has encouraged and indulged me in this obsession to a great degree. For me, the initial planning of a trip is an exercise in pure excitement and anticipation, followed by the journey itself which may or may not be so exciting (LOL!), and lastly followed by the exhilaration of finding myself in a new place! My hope is to always have at least one trip in a serious planning stage. Not having a future trip to look forward to is like a "day without sunshine."
However, as much of the world has suffered a global financial crisis and life can change at any moment, I take nothing for granted. If nothing else, this year has abundantly proven that life is unpredictable if anything --- it can be irreparably altered and fleeting, and I believe each and every travel experience is something to be appreciated and savored to the fullest. Through my pages here on VT I've tried to preserve my experiences and memories for myself and share with others who may wish to read about them.
~ My Most Recent Travel Memories ~
September, 2013 ~ A weekend to visit relatives in Georgia recently was memorable not only for the time spent with loved ones but for the interesting sights we saw during our time with them. I have built a tiny page based on these sights to share with you.
August & September, 2013 ~ "First of the fall and then she goes back.... bye, bye, bye, bye there..." (lyrics by Sly & The Family Stones). Just took our daughter back to University for her senior year. Miss her already! It will be a great year for her. Great school, great college town, and a great place to visit.
I have reconstructed the intro. page and added several new tips and photos to my State College page.
Summer, 2013 ~ Wildwood on the Jersey Shore is a small town we visit often. I have built a small, but growing page on this town which has found a place in my heart.
April, 2013 ~ Sometimes a deal can be just too good to pass up. Had a wonderful week's cruise to Bermuda where the weather was perfect, the scenery was fabulous and the people are friendly! Please check out some of the many new tips I have recently added.
March, 2013 ~ A day trip to our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. This city has an endless number of sights to see and much of it for free.
December, 2012 ~ Christmas in New York ~ 2012 and Windows Dressed for the Holidays. Visited NYC for a day with a close friend to attend a performance of Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, have lunch and window shop.
July, 2012 ~ "The Land of Contrasts" - Australia page. This vast country, like my own, is vast. We managed to visit three major areas over two weeks' time: Sydney & the Blue Mountains; Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef; and Uluru in the Red Center.
March, 2012 ~ Costa Rica!! One of the best trips of my life! No further words needed!!
~ Some of My Most Memorable Journeys ~
We had a great cruise to Bermuda in April, 2013. A perfect combination of time at sea, which I love, and 2 1/2 days in Bermuda which I adore!
Our trip to Costa Rica in 2012 on a tour comes immediately to mind as my favorite land journey. Say what you will about tours, but we had a blast with the people and guides on our tour!
I first set eyes on Venice in 2011 and I was immediately smitten. It is nothing less than magical -- wandering the narrow, stone walkways and paths, admiring the architecture of buildings and bridges, happening upon flowers spilling over balconies in quiet courtyards, the sweeping view of Venice from atop the Campanile di San Marco, gondolas bobbing up and down on the Grand Canal --- everything was a visual feast. Spending the evening sipping a cappuccino while sitting by the Grand Canal seemed indulgent but wonderful. Truly la dolce vita!
My first trip to Italy was in 2004 -- a monumental stroke of good luck -- with all expenses paid by my employer. A conference at THE Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio. My room looking out upon a hillside vinyard. Sightseeing in Milan, Como, and Menaggio. A fantastic boat trip on the Lago di Como and a memory of seeing the pale pink, lavendar beauty of the Villa Carlotta. One of the top 5 trips of my lifetime!
Our first cruise to Alaska on Holland America's Zaandam out of Vancouver, B.C. in 2002. I was so sad to leave that ship that I actually cried and had to wear sunglasses to breakfast! We liked Alaska and the cruise so much that we took two more cruises there -- 2004, 2006.
I fell in love with England in 1984! Our first land tour was a two-week trip out of London traveling south by southwest as far as Looe and Plymouth, dipping into Wales to see Tintern Abbey, and up north as far as the Isle of Sky off the west coast of Scotland and then across the country, visiting numerous places on the way back to London -- a great circular sort of route covering many wonderful towns and sights. I'm a confirmed Anglophile. We've made three more trips to Britain but have not been back for a visit since 1998. Thank heaven for many British movies, BBC mini-series, drama and comedies, color TV, and a very thick volume of Jane Austen!
My first real trip! Driving from Virginia to Canada to visit relatives! My Mother, Father, Brother and a Cousin began the trip by taking a car ferry from my hometown to Baltimore (no tunnels or major bridges in those days) and drove from there to the Province of Quebec. Now that was a road trip!
