The first actual trip to Germany was made on this date, 20 December 2003. We drove all the way to this beautiful city, called Hannover. Though it looks quite far from Amersfoort on the map, it only took us about 2 1/2 hours to 3 hours to get there only. Hannover is the capital of Lower Saxony, and in fact it has some closed links with the English speaking world. It was through some royal marriage in the ancient days. Anyway, I am sure that most of us knew about this city through the famous, 'World Trade Fair!' ? ;-)
While we were there, the weather was not the best, unfortunately. However, we managed to wander around the city center by foot. And I found out that it's a good place to shop!...*hehe* ;-D But the funny thing was that I did not buy anything at all!...*hmmm...* :-\ Oh well, perhaps next time. :-) Since it was near to Christmas, there was this Christmas Market going on around there then, which I thought was very beautiful. I really like the idea or the concept of setting up such a market when nearing to Christmas. It really gives a very Christmassy spirit and atmosphere. It is a very nice feeling you get when everyone is into it. Anyway, we got to meet my good 'ol friend, Holli (he's a member of VT too, under the nick name 'Chancay'. Check out his page, he has some nice page in his VT Page) whom I have known since 1998. That was a very long time, I know! But ya, it was our first meet up on this date. He showed us around a bit and brought us out for a drink at some cafe, then to eat at this Persian Restaurant, called Jila. The food at this restaurant was real good. And the price was reasonably cheap if compared to the food in the restaurants around here in Amersfoort. So...Good food + Reasonable Price = Great Meal! *haha* :-D
- Pros:Great place to shop!

Christmas markets are great lots of atmosphere not to mention gluwhein - yummy
You are right: the Christmas Market is great. And there are more places to see in Lower Saxony. Regards , Michael
I also visited such markets in Germany, great!
Next time you come to Hannover in Christmast--Time, make the extra 100 kms to Goettingen -- It's a charming university town with lots of old houses and one of the best christmas markets around. (Lots of students drinking "Glühwein")
Incredible I haven´t had a look before. ;-)) nice photos!!
Nice page!
