Kuching is the capital of Sarawak. It is a very multi-racial city, and that is what makes this city coloured with rich culture. It sits on the bank of Sarawak river. If you know Malay language you would probably think that Kuching was named after some 'cat'. Well, perhaps you're right. In my school days, we had to do some history projects on our lovely Kuching city, and we found out that the name Kuching, was believed to be derived from 'kucing' meaning cat, and also a typed of fruit called, 'air mata kucing'. How true it is, we do not know.
During the olden days, Sarawak river has brought in a lot of various trading activities. Besides, this river has been used to connect the people from both sides of the rivers together. Since there were so much connection between the river and the people of Kuching, the Government of Sarawak had decided to transform it into a Waterfront park. It took about 5 years to develop the Waterfront. In 1993, Kuching Waterfront was officially opened to the public. The intention of the Government to reclaim the river was to return the riverfront to the people of Kuching. That is why Kuching Waterfront is known as 'The People Place', one of the famous landmark in Kuching, which we're all proud of!
