Greece for me is white, dazzling white, a white that’s blinding in the sun, whitewashed walls, feta-white goats dotting a hillside, seafoam white, and blue, the deep blue of the sea, square blue doors and round blue churchtops against a cloudless sky-blue. When I see blue and white together, I think of Greece and hot lazy days and warm dreamy nights.
I’ve written about Ios and Santorini in these pages, the only islands I’ve visited. I want to go back and explore some of the other islands one day. As much as I enjoyed my stay in Greece, I suspect I would love some of the lesser known islands more. Athens — well, Athens isn’t part of my Greece. Dusty, grey, hot as hell, polluted. But I would like to get a proper look at the Acropolis, and I hear there’s beauty on the rest of the mainland.
Thanks for thinking of Greece with me! |
