Wat Traimit - Temple of the Golden Buddha: Temple of Golden Buddha
  • Tip Rating:
  • Wat Traimitr - The Golden Temple should be your first visit. At this stage, you will learn about Buddha's attitude.

Apparently Buddha's has 9 attitudes of the whole 7 days. One of the famous attitude is the Reclining Buddha which eventually will link to your next visit to Wat Po, famous for huge Reclining Buddha.

But main objective of course is to visit the Golden Buddha which located at different wing of this area. Golden Buddha which also known as Phra Buddha Mahasuwan Patimakorn or Phra Sukhothai Traimitr. Said to be weighed at least 5 tons and about 4 meter high. Considered as one of most important temple for the Buddhist in Bangkok.

I strongly advise to get a guide or local friend which will be able to explain in details about monk daily activities and what are do's and dont's while in the temple.

    Wat Pho: Wat Pho
  • Tip Rating:
  • There are about 1000 Buddha images on the grounds of Wat Pho, some of details collection were obtained from the ruins of old Siam capital which known more as Ayuthaya.

I counted almost 100 Chedis of varying sizes arounds the grounds around rock gardens said to be built honoring King's of Rama during those days.

You can get a guide varies from 100 - 300 BAHT within your entry in this temple, but i reckoned you can explore by yourself and look at your guide book. Just remember to follow the religious rules.

    IMPORTANT : Dress code

For ladies, Wai to monks but touching is absolutely not allowed.

Grand Palace / Wat Phra Kaew: Grand Palace
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Grand Palace is the most beautiful place I've seen so far in Bangkok. Its just so much about the King Rama empire and how were the palace those like.

In detail Grand Palace is actually within the compound of Wat Phra Kaew or actually vice versa. Though there is a temple however no monks actually taking care of it as is belong to the Royal family and mostly used special events such corontaion. Till today Wat Phra Kaew (also well known for the Emerald Buddha) is used for present king coronation and celebration.

Most striking monument around Grand Palace 3 chedi said to be King Rama (im not sure which no.) favourite area to represent his empire SIAM KINGDOM,which known more during those days.

The 3 chedi details as follow:

Phra Siratana Chedi - The golden pointed dome - said to be the sri lankan style
Phra Mondop - the middle one covered with tiles - said to be the typical Thai royal architecture
Prasat Phra Dhepbidorn - the largest chedi among the 3 - said to be the Khmer influence

Not long to wait now! :-) Have a great time in Istanbul...I'm sure you will do, mate! I feel the same about Bangkok - after all the reading up, I feel as though I already know the city - but that'll all change when I get there! :-)
