Our second trip to Fiji was very different than the first time. This time we opted to stay on Ono Island, a very tiny remote island east of Kadavu (south of Viti Levu).
The trip from Vunisea (Kadavu) to Ono was in a large Fijian type dinghy with an outboard motor and was hair raising.
The weather was very rough with sheets of very wet (warm)rain blinding our eyes and we took nearly two hours (instead of one hour) to reach Ono. I was screaming because the boat was going straight up in the air and coming down with huge bangs with regularity which didn't appeal to me one bit. I thought I was going to get out of the boat with permanent back damage!! The Fijian boys were standing up and walking round the boat as if this was entirely normal. They are brought up with the sea and boats and its second nature to them.
But for me, I was holding the rope tags on the side of the boat, for dear life, for 2 whole hours !!!!!!!
The rain stopped when we arrived at most beautiful idyllic island and we found our bure nestled in the palms where we spent a wonderful 10 days snorkelling the reefs, eating fish caught by the boys and cooked in the earth oven. Papaya, pineapple, bananas were abundant.
