If you want cosmopolitan excitement, theater productions rivaled only by London and New York, ethnic food off the charts, and a unique North American charm....Then Toronto is it! It seems as if Toronto has just bursted onto the world seen as of late. Sure it seems like it has always been there(actually settled early in the 1800's, new by even N. American standards) but Toronto has finally acheived a world-class status. Its key location on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, its multi-cultural population(actually numbering almost 5 million in the GTA), its sqeaky clean streets AND reputation, and hailed has having a public transportation system that is the best on the continent(not in my opinion, but hey, I don't make the facts) all add up to make one very impressive resume. While I am American, I have traveled to Toronto many times in my life. It is almost 4 hours by car, but because of all it has to offer in terms of big city venues,(and having some family who used to live in S. Ontario) my parents thought it a good choice to educate us kids with a culture that wasn't and still really isn't available in our small Pennsylvania town. Plus, its closer than either New York or Philadelphia. We would go shopping there(can't beat the exchange rate!) and on numerous occassions would go see a live theater productions. Now with friends that live here, I tend to visit quite often. Each time I am never dissappointed. I am sure that all who come here aren't either. Its a great place to visit AND live I am told. In fact, each time I am there,in the back of my mind,I consider moving there. The winters aren't as drab or cold as others would ahve you believe. With an exciting city of this size, who notices the weather anyways?! When I get some pictures scanned in, I am sure all of you will agree.... (BTW-this pic. is courtesy of Corbis.com-check it out!) |
