I am actually partial to Buffalo. My family is originally from there and it is the closest metropolitan area for me. :) Yes, Buffalo has its downsides ranging from high unemployment to terrible weather(But actually Toronto is actually colder in the winter and has more cloudy days.), yet those who actually take the time to explore Buffalo, find it a facinating city. I know I always have good time there. Buffalo is home to the Olmstead park system-a famous architect designed the cities parks...rated some of the best in the world. Allentown(and area slightly north of downtown along Delware Ave. dubbed Millionaire's Row)) is a historic section featureing block upon block of extravegant old homes. It actually is said to be reminicint of San Francisco and I whole-heartedly agree. The city also boasts a fantastic art museum, the Albright-Knox Gallery. And for a smaller city(1.3 million in the Metro area) it has a GREAT after dark scene. So if you can brave the heavy snowfalls(which AREN'T that bad, albeit the 7ft this past Christmas), then Buffalo will not dissappoint you. And if you find the aura that the city exudes(which actually isn't a bad one surprisingly) to be depressing, just remember that Peace Bridge is right there and Canada looms on the horizan and of course there is the world famous Niagara Falls 20 minutes away. So next time you come to the Niagara Frontier, give Buffalo a try. With its plethora of restaurants, good shopping and a hearty, FUN population..you shouldn't be dissappointed! Note these pictures aren't my own. But they are really much better than the ones I have! This one here is Buffalo City Hall. It was one of the first skyscrapers in the country. Its one of my fav. buildings.

I have lived all my life in South Buffalo. Studies have shown (at least some areas of it) to be a neighborhood with one of the lowest crime rates in the Northeast US. I agree with you on the East Side, and you can probably add the West Side

Buffalo is crazy! At 4 am there were people on Elmwood ave eating buffalo wings, drunk club girls staggering down the street, cop chases everywhere you looked, and people dancing on the street next to their SUV which would be blaring music from the trunk.
