"Whats in a name?" Muhafazat al Qunaytirah by freya_heaven

Muhafazat al Qunaytirah Travel Guide: 108 reviews and 327 photos

I shall call this area the Golan Heights, apart from being much easier to write, it is what most people will know it by. The Arabic name for the area is Muhafazat al Qunaytirah. The name change happened after the 6 day war of 1967 when the boundarys were changed and this area fell within present day Israel although VT have situated this area in Syria.

The Golan Heights or Muhafazat al Qunaytirah is situated on the north eastern tip of Israel, sitting snuggly next to Lebanon & Syria. Here you will find Crusader castles, Druze villages, pretty scenery & even a ski resort!

In the winter this area is very popular with skiers & people seeking fun in the snow. In the summer its a great place to get to slighty cooler climes of the summer heat.

Stunning views, very interesting story on the name and location of the place in real and on VT. Amusing local custom tip, unique hitchhiking by a police car and... skiing :-)

A very interesting page, nicola. A friend with a gun, jumping the fence, and then a ride with the police, what an adventure.

What a intriguing page, with surprises around every corner. You and Ray certainly are full of adventure. I always know I'll learn something new on your pages, Nicola. Picked up by police while hitchhiking "takes the cake" as does Ray with a gun~
