I was not quite so lucky with our choice of basic accommodation in Jordan as we were in Egypt. I have never had so many bites on me from one night in a Hostel in Amman. Apologies for not remembering the name of it, but you know it if you have been there! there is a Music stall outside it if that helps you avoid it.

I have to say I would not stay in any of the Hostels I stayed in in Jordan. The standard seems a lot lower than places like Egypt & Israel

New Hotel, Karak

It was cheap and cheerfull but very small.

Alex and I shared a room with an old Jordainian Lady,

The owner was quite comical as he slept outside the girls (our) dorm door to make sure there was no "funny Business"

There is a also kitchen you can use

Wadi Rum Bedouins

We stayed in a 2 person ridge tent, supplied by the Government Resthouse. Very cold, but as there is no other accommodation at Wadi Rum, there is not much choice.

Showers & loos are in the Resthouse.

The tents are very cheap to hire (although we did not need to pay for ours!) and its also possible to hire bedding.

Unique Qualities: It was free!

Me, Petra

Our stay in the Sunset Hotel was fine, I cant really remember much about it, so it must have been ok.

With getting up at 5.30 in the morning to be at petra for opening at 6am, we really didnt spend much time there.

Unique Qualities: So close to Petra

Petra Campers

I didnt actually do this although I would have loved to.

Some American and Danish friends of mine, stayed in Petra after dark and actually set up camp and stayed the night within Petra itself.

It is not allowed, but they got away with it & what a wonderful memory they are left with.

I know and appreciate that when you stay in buget/backpacker accommodaion you should not expect more than just the basics, and I dont.

But waking up with covered in what I assume were bed bug bites, isnt the greatest feeling...............Ugh!

I was surprised, as the Cliff Hotel had come well recommended by the guide book we were using for our backpacking trip around Jordan.

Maybe I was just very unlucky.......................
