King Sancho the 1st (& Princess Freya!) - Silves

Silves was once the Moorish capital of the Algarve region.

The town itself is not very big, with a population of less than 11 thousand. Most visitors who come here come to see the Se (Cathedral) & Silves Castle

We spent a lovely morning & lunchtime here wandering around Silves Castle & lovely old cobbled streets

thats not King Sancho, but King Fernando I who siezed the castle from the Moors

oh..I could use the warmth of the Algarve right..now. and Silves is just the place I want to be. the old walls, the athmosphere...you captured well! and Freya 1st. I missed her ^..^

Nice place, remember it well. Managed to avoid the parking tickets. Statue always reminds me of Nottingham Castle

What a lovely castle. I love the pictrure of Freya and the knight. She looks so tiny.

I got there by bus and didn't have to experience parking zones. I still have to pay a fine for parking on wrong roadside. May I lend Freya for a few minutes?

Thanks for the tour of the castle! We were only in the area for 2 days so we only managed to see the imressive structure from afar as we drove past on our way from the southern beaches to Monchique!
