We Arrived in Cairo on a warm night at 10pm. We got off the bus after 15 Hours from Jerusalem and were soon surrounded by touts wanting us to go to to their various Hotels.
Having already chosen where we were staying, we ran the gauntlet and jumped in a taxi. Only for the taxi driver to tell us the hotel we wanted to go to was full & he would take us to another one. He ignored our protests so we ended up at the Anglo Swiss Hotel. As it happened it turned out fine. Just irritating you have little control over where you stay!!
Our first sight of Cairo by bus as we drove in to the city was daunting, SO many people, lights, noise, manic drivers. ( I sound a little like Crocodile Dundee here (~_~) ) but I was just unprepared as to just how big Cairo was. I think I was expecting a shanty town near the Pyramids, I could not have been more wrong
We were in Cairo for a week at the beginning of our time in Egypt (nearly 2 months) and then for a few days at the end of our time in Egypt before we got the bus to Tel Aviv.
Cairo is a wonderful & friendy city, with so many places to visit and explore. I would love to rent a flat & live there for a month or 2 & live with the Egyptions. |
