    • The Forum, is usually called so because of its status as a market, but there are differing opinions as to whether the Jarash Forum was indeed a market area or a place of sacrifice attached to the temple.

    Either way the oval shaped colonnaded area is impressive especially as its the first area of Roman Jarash you enter

    • The South Theatre held up to 5,000 spectators in its time and was built in the first century. From the top layer of seats there is a great view of the ruins and Jarash new town.

    • The Temple of Artimis was dedicated to the Goddess of the city.

    In the 12th century the Temple was fortified by the Arabs, this fortification of the temple was later destroyed by the Crusaders.

    • The Eastern Baths of the Roman city are now situated behind the present day bus station.

    (Not that they had a bus station in Roman days, maybe a chariot station? (~_~) )

    • The colonnaded street runs for 600 meters from the Forum all the way to the North Gate.

    Ruts caused by the chariots are still visible on the origional stones.

    In the background of the photo the Temple of Zeus can be seen, this was built late in the 2nd century

    • The Cathedral was built in the 4th century. Apparently it really was nothing more than a church, but for some reason it was been named the cathedral.

    Behind the Cathedral modern day Jarash is situated.
