For such a small place Akko (Acre) has an increadible history, I doubt there are many towns in the world which have been conqured so many times. Eqyptians, Romans, Turks, British, Cursaders, Mamelukes, French, some of the above on more than one occasion.

Akko is still very much an Arab town and its one of the few places in Israel Arabs & Jews live in relative harmony.

I spent a wonderful few hours here wandering around in the warm afternoon sun. It was like going back in time, quite a medieval feel to the place. A local showed us around the town & harbour, we saw 2 local couples having their wedding photos taken on the harbour wall

I was on my kibbutz in the wild and wooly 70's. I just visited last may after an absence of 28 years. It was mind boggling, nostalgic fest.

Glad to hear you can see both Rosh HaNikra and Akko on the same daytrip from Haifa. That was my plan.
